Manuka honey UMF 20+ in short supply

One of the highest grades of Manuka honey carrying the UMF 20+ certification has been sold out across New Zealand for over 6 months due to the exceptional demand for this product around the world.

However, despite a poor production season due to poor weather during flowering there will be more Manuka UMF 20+ available again soon.

In the meantime there are still adequate stocks of UMF 18+ which has almost the same level of antimicrobial activity as UMF 20+ Manuka honey.
It should be remembered that when a batch of Manuka honey is tested for certification, the UMF number applied to it is a minimum, it could well be higher than that stated on the label.
Unlike many other products, Manuka honey's antimicrobial activity appears to improve with age, so a batch of honey tested at UMF18+ could well become UMF 20+ within a year of processing.

So the message is not to be to alarmed if the best you can order at present only has a rating of UMF 18+, it could well be higher than that by the time you receive it.

Sleeping with your dog can cause serious health problems

Reports state that half of pet owners sleep with their dogs. But experts say, having a dog cuddle in bed with you can make you very sick.

Dr. Lynn Proctor from Banfield, a pet hospital in Willoughby, Ohio said if you don't watch closely, you can put yourself at risk. She believes in preventative health care for your pet, so they and you aren't ever at risk for sickness.

"If you pet the animal, and go somewhere outside, you must wash your hands. Keep your house clean and wash your bed sheets every couple of days,” Proctor said.

Some local primary care doctors said they are seeing more pet-related illnesses like ringworm in their patients lately. Some even said they believe it could be from that close contact in bed. They are treating everything from fleas, to worms to meningitis, according to some experts.

Now, with the weather breaking and such a mild winter we've had, fleas and ticks are a problem, too. Tick bites can lead to Lyme disease, which can cause everything from flu-like symptoms to paralysis.

Certain internal parasites like tapeworms can be passed on to humans and the consequences can be serious.

If you notice your pet has some hair loss formed into a patch on their coat, that's a sign of ringworm. Ringworm is another illness that is easily passed on to people. Ringworm is a fungus and it's contagious so you or your children can definitely catch it from both dogs and cats.

Treatment options for Ringworm are available for both humans and pets. A natural ringworm solution that can be used on both dogs and humans is a formula containing New Zealand Manuka essential oil in both an oil, cream and soap. These products should be used together both as a treatment and prevention of further ringworm outbreaks.

Scabies closes schools

Outbreaks of the scabies mite has closed a school in Buffalo NY as a precaution as several children have contracted the tiny parasite.
Health officials have warned that people need to be vigilant to make sure that this contagious condition does not become widespread in the community.
On the World Health Organisation's website, they list the principal sign of the infestation as a pimple-like rash that is most commonly found on the hands, especially the webbing between the fingers, the skin folds of the wrist, elbow or knee, the penis, the breast or the shoulder. Infestation often causes intense itching all over the body, especially at night.
Another case of scabies has been confirmed at Mort Elementary School in Tampa Fl.
Although there are a number of scabies treatment products on the market, the problem has become more serious as there are now strains of scabies mites that have developed resistance to many of the chemical treatments including Lyclear, malathion, permethrin and ivermectin.
Scientists studying scabies treatments in Australia have discovered that there are natural treatments that are available which are effective against resistant strains of scabies.
One such natural treatment is a formula containing Tea Tree and New Zealand Manuka essential oils in both an oil product and in a cream base.
Both of these products and a soap containing Manuka oil are recommended in a natural scabies treatment kit supplied by Manuka Natural a New Zealand company specialising in natural products.

Seborrheic dermatitis can cause hair loss

Seborrheic dermatitis is most commonly found on the scalp of men and around the nose of both men and women where the oil glands are more active.
In men the hair follicles produce oil, which if excessive, can be infected with the Malassezia fungus causing large areas of greasy dandruff. In cases where it is not treated Seborrheic dermatitis can cause hair loss by blocking the hair follicles.
Seborrheic dermatitis can be treated with antifungal products and one of the most effective is a combination of New Zealand Manuka oil and a cream containing Manuka honey. These products work together to eliminate the Malassezia fungus and return the skin to its natural healthy condition.
Seborrheic dermatitis is a severe form of dandruff or in babies and young infants it can be referred to as cradle cap.
The symptoms of Seborrheic dermatitis on the scalp are large thickened ares of dandruff with a characteristic unpleasant smell.
Treatment options include antifungal creams, shampoos and the natural seborrheic dermatitis treatment from Manuka Natural

Bee venom mask popular

Bee venom mask, moisturisers and creams continue to gain ground in the natural beauty market as more people hear about their success.
Initially English Royalty and a number of high profile celebrity film stars publicised the use of bee venom creams and masks to reduce the visible signs of ageing by reducing the facial fine lines and wrinkles.
These bee venom products have been referred to as a natural form of Botox, colloquially called Beetox.

Three different bee venom products are available to suit individual requirements

The great advantage of bee venom in a cream or mask is that it can be applied by the individual without painful or invasive needles or surgery.

The predominant response from users of bee venom masks and moisturisers is that they have seen positive results not only to their fine lines, but also to their general complexion which has drawn admiring comment from friends and colleagues.

Another advantage of bee venom in a cream is that the cost is low, it can be applied at home and no-one needs to know that the user is indulging their skin in this youthful enhancement.

Incidence of nail fungus growing

According to Dr. Alexander Fish a Manhattan podiatrist, nail fungus can affect anyone at any time and has become more common than once thought.
Nail fungus spores are everywhere and very common in gymnasiums, pools and spas, anywhere where there is dampness and warmth.
Recent exposure of a lack of hygiene at certain nail clinics has highlighted the need to be careful where you get your nails done. Clinicians should always wear gloves and surfaces and instruments should be sterilised between patients or customers.
One way that people can prevent nail fungus infection is to periodically apply a light application of New Zealand Manuka oil to their fingertips and toenail tips and massaging the oil into the end of the nail.
NZ Manuka essential oil has been proven in scientific in-vitro studies to eliminate the fungus at very low concentrations and without any side effects.
Manuka oil has quite a woody aroma and can be diluted with olive oil.
Alternatively Manuka oil is also formulated in a cream which can be applied to areas prone to nail or skin fungus

Bee Venom cream popularity increases

Sales of the Bee Venom cream, mask and moisturizers continue to grow with many repeat orders coming through now.
Clearly those who have tried them have experienced the benefits and many have said that their friends have commented on their complexion as well.
Some have said that their skin also feels softer and that they have not had the spots or breakouts that they had suffered before using the Bee Venom creams.
This observation is logical because of the Manuka honey which is an important ingredient in all of these bee venom products. Manuka honey is antibacterial in action as well as enhancing the moisture retention of the skin.
So if you have not tried any of the Bee Venom masks, moisturizers or creams, give them a try and experience a more youthful appearance.

Acne drug linked to eye health problems

New Research from Tel Aviv University in Israel describes serious health concerns associated with the use of Acne drug Isotretinoin, sold under various brands including Roaccutane, Claravis and Amnesteem.
Researchers warn that the use of Isotretinoin to treat Acne has been linked with serious side effects including bone growth delays in teenagers, miscarriages and birth defects when taken by pregnant women.
More recently the use of Isotretinoin has been identified with serious eye health problems including conjunctivitis (pink eye), styes and dryness.
Apparently the effect of drying the sebum secretions on the skin where Acne is most common also affects function of the meibomian glands on the eyelids leading to a lack of lubrication of the eyes.
If left untreated this can cause long term damage to the persons sight.
According to  Dr. Rick Fraunfelder, a professor at Oregon Health and Science University and an eye health specialist, recommends people seriously consider the side effects before starting isotretinoin treatment for Acne
"It's a relatively dangerous drug," he said. "The best way to avoid these side effects is if you do not take the drug at all."

Manuka Natural have the same view that people suffering from Acne should only use these drugs when all other avenues of Acne treatment have been tried. Clearly many people are using drugs with a high risk of side effects when there are very effective natural alternatives available.
One successful natural Acne treatment involves the application of Manuka honey formulated in a cream along with diluted Manuka essential oil and Manuka soap.
These natural Manuka products have been very effective in controlling the bacteria that causes Acne in studies and leave the skin in a healthy condition with no reported side effects of any kind.
